Caladium Care

Caladiums are definitely growing in popularity as a houseplants and with brightly coloured paper like leaves we have definitely fallen for them!

They do have some extra needs as the seasons change so let us help you make the most of them:

In Spring / Summer
Caladiums will be in active growth they like:

  • High humidity
  • Bright indirect light
  • Fertilising every other watering
  • Watering when the top 50% of the soil is dry but will tolerate drying a little more

In Autumn / Winter the plants will be going dormant and tend to rest for around five months before starting to put out fresh growth in spring.

  • As leaves die back trim them off at the base
  • You can then either remove the tubers from the soil, allow them to dry and store them in a breathable bag or leave them in the soil and stop watering
In spring, plant your tubers back up and re-start watering keeping the plant in indirect light being careful to protect new shoots from any direct sun
